More photos from Miyajima

Here are some more photos from our visit yesterday to Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Miyajima. The huge red Torii that stands in the shallow water marks the gateway to the sacred precints of the Shinto shrine. Michael, Lauren, Leslie, Akiko, Mariko, Ajon, Sachi and Raymond Moriyama pose for a family photo. The Shrine itself is built on piers so it is somewhat like a large dock. We visited at low tide so the kids walked out to the base of the Torii. Tame deer are everywhere on this site. They are regarded as "messengers of the gods". Judging by the look on Jack's face, you can see that we all found the roaming deer to be highly amusing.
