Hiroshima

(The Peace Memorial Cenotaph. Every year on August 6, the day the bomb was dropped, they add the people who died because of the bomb to the list. People are still being affected 65 years later.)

Yesterday, we took the bullet train from Kyoto to Hiroshima. We had some green tea KitKats, which they sell only in Kyoto. They have KitKats in any flavour imaginable. From the station in Hiroshima, we went to a ferry terminal, and took a ferry out to an island. We visited a temple which went along the shore line, and did some shopping. After that, we headed to see the Peace Memorial park, which includes the Atomic Bomb Dome, a building that survived the blast even thought it was only 150 metres away from the hypocenter! It had a powerful effect on me. We made some paper cranes and placed them at the Children's Peace Monument and Zoe rang the Peace Bell there. Afterwards, we went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. We learned what a devestating effect the A-Bomb had on not only Hiroshima, but the whole world. 8:15 AM, August 6, 1945 was when the bomb was dropped. At the exact same time, the world entered the Nuclear Age, and it hasn't yet exited it. Although a nuclear weapon hasn't been used since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we need to work hard to abolish nuclear weapons world wide. Overall, it was the most interesting and my favourite day of the whole trip (so far!).
This is Jack signing off yet again.
